In this position, you will serve as a Pilot/Test Pilot for the 416th Flight Test Squadron (FLTS).

Plan, execute, and manage developmental and qualification flight tests of 412th Test Wing (TW), 412th Operations Group (OG) fixed-wing aircraft. The unit coordinates assets from AFMC, AFTC, and other commands and agencies to accomplish ground and flight tests on aircraft including T-38, T-7, F-16.
Serves as an Instructor Pilot, Test Pilot, and/or Test Support Pilot
Maintains proficiency in the T-38, T-7, and/or the F-16 and demonstrates ability to fly flight test/test support sorties and handle all types of in-flight and ground emergencies.

- To qualify for a GS-14, candidate must have graduated from either Air Force, Navy, or internationally recognized Test Pilot School (full course).
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position
- Incumbents on flying status must pass and maintain a USAF Flying Class III physical IAW AFI 48-123. Comply with AFI 48-123 standards for flying qualifications and requirements to see a flight surgeon for DNIF/RTFS determination.
- Ability to perform frequent and regular aerial flights in high performance military aircraft associated with training and test support military flight activity is required. Must meet periodic USAF Class II medical standards as required.
- Applicant will have access to flight surgeons and must comply with AFI 48-123 requirements to see a flight surgeon for Duties Not Involving Flying (DNIF) and Return to Flying Status (RTFS) determinations.
- With respect to active flying duties, this position does have a moderate lifting requirement (15-44 pounds). The incumbent must maintain personal fitness levels comparable to active duty aircrew counterparts.
- The incumbent must maintain aircrew flight qualification IA W AFI l l-202v2 and applicable MAJCOM procedures/ directives.
- Incumbent must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating; both meet the intent of the requirement. The FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or the military equivalent rating is also required.
- The pilot certificate must include the rating(s) appropriate to the work of the position to be filled. Navy instructor experience identified as NATOPS, is acceptable for the instructor requirement.

Individual Occupational Requirements
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation are based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the positions.
Certificates and Ratings:
For all grade levels and specializations, candidates must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating; both meet the intent of the requirement. If an agency decides, for example, not to accept the military rating, the rationale for the decision should be based upon the requirements of the position and should be thoroughly described in agency operating material. For flight instructor positions, the FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or the military equivalent rating is also required. The pilot certificate must include the rating(s) appropriate to the work of the position to be filled. For example, a position that involves flying a multi-engine airplane to various destinations under instrument flight rules would require the Commercial Pilot Certificate with the airplane, multi-engine, and instrument ratings or appropriate U.S. military ratings. Positions that require flying or instructing in flying both airplanes and helicopters require a rating in both categories. Only those ratings necessary to perform the work are required.
Note: Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official orders, forms, or logbooks showing their status as a rated military pilot, flight instructor, or flight examiner, as appropriate. Other certificates that meet or exceed the requirements of the Commercial Pilot Certificate are also acceptable, e.g., an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.
Minimum Flight Hour Requirements
The following flight hour requirements apply to all applicants:
Total Flight Time -- Flight time as pilot-in-command or copilot in aircraft of any weight or category is creditable for this requirement. For inservice placements actions, up to one-fourth of the total flight hours may by waived for candidates who have demonstrated possession of the knowledge and skills needed to perform the work, provided:
They hold the certificates and ratings required;
They have acquired the pilot-in-command hours and flight hours in other categories essential to performance of the work;
They meet the requirements in terms of level and quality of experience; and
Their flying history indicates they are qualified for the position.
Pilot-In-Command -- Only flight hours acquired as pilot-in-command are creditable.
Night Flying -- For inservice placement actions at the GS-11 level and above, 25 hours may be waived if the candidate demonstrates the ability to perform the work.
Flying Time, Last 12 Months -- Required only for positions that involve flying. The flight hours specified apply to competitive appointments. For inservice placement actions, up to one-half of the flight hours may be waived provided the individual's total background reflects the ability to perform the duties of the position safely. For positions flying both helicopters and airplanes, at least one-fourth of the total hours must be in either category of aircraft.
Additional Requirements For Flight Test Pilot
The following flight hour requirements apply to all applicants:
Total Flight Time - 1750 Flight Hours - Flight time as pilot-in-command or copilot in aircraft of any weight or category is creditable for this requirements; 2) Pilot-in-Command - 1150 Flight Hours - Only flight hours acquired as pilot-in-command are creditable; 3) Instructor Hours - 300 Flight Hours - Only flight hours acquired as instructor are creditable; 4) Flying Time, Fighter-type aircraft: 500 military jet flight hours required; 5) Night Flying - 75 Flight Hours desired: 6) Instrument - 75 Flight Hours desired; Simulated instrument time is also acceptable as part of this total; 7) Flying Time, Last 12 Months - 100 Flight Hours
RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
1. Expert level of technical knowledge and demonstrated expert skill to operate and maintain qualification in assigned
aircraft.
2. Expert level of knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structures and operation of the
Department of Defense, Air Force and other entries that govern, interface with and/or influence the systems acquisition
process for Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E).
3. Expert level of knowledge to analyze and draw conclusions regarding test mission results and write technical reports
appropriate for senior executive and technical level reviews.
4. Expert level of knowledge of flight test techniques and test procedures in a wide range of qualitative and quantitative
methods for the planning and assessment of operational tests for highly complex test missions.
5. Expert level ability to analyze, interpret and apply policies, rules, regulations, laws, directive and procedures relating
to the conduct of flight test operations in addition to effectively communicating orally and in writing.
6. Expert level of knowledge, skill, and ability to conduct ground and in-flight instruction to include theory, planning,
execution, data analysis, and reporting. To include physically strenuous work environment and to adapt to irregular
scheduling and non-standard work hours.
