This position is located in the Division of Operating Reactor Safety, Palisades Restart Team.  The supervisor is April Nguyen.   This position is in the Bargaining Unit with the National Treasury Employees Union, Chapter 208.   This position is subject to Confidential Financial Disclosure reporting requirements.

Duties

Incumbent serves as a region-based senior inspector who assists the Team Lead in managing the inspection program. The Senior Project Engineer will lead, plan, conduct, report, and integrate findings associated with inspections of light-water reactors, in accordance with the NRC Inspection manual, Chapter 2515. Performs a wide variety of lead duties associated with inspection of the engineering, corrective actions and operations of power reactors. independently plans and determines the scope of inspections to be performed. As a lead inspector or team member, performs routine and complex inspections, allegation reviews, event response inspections, or area of emphasis inspections of reactor facilities to observe and assure conformance to NRC rules and regulations, inspection procedures, and orders. Prepares and coordinates a report of inspection findings to ascertain whether the facility is being operated safely, whether the licensee's performance in cross-cutting areas is effective, and whether regulatory requirements are being satisfied. Integrates inspection findings into overall licensee assessment. Performs miscellaneous duties in support of the region- based inspection program, including enforcement and performance assessment.

Qualifications

Candidates may meet the basic qualifications required by having at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the occupational series listed above or in another series performing like or similar duties and possessing a knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices in a field of engineering, physical science, or related technical discipline as evidenced by a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as demonstrating knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of nuclear engineering or other engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, or structural as applied to the degree in engineering or experience that has been or would be eligible for certification as equivalent through professional registration procedures.

Education

To qualify for this position, you must meet basic education and professional knowledge requirements that apply to Federal engineering positions at all grade levels, in addition to the specialized experience requirements.

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Regardless of the grade level of the vacancy, candidates for Federal Government professional engineering positions must meet certain basic professional knowledge requirements. Generally the knowledge requirements are met by having a bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant professional engineering discipline (e.g., nuclear, electrical, mechanical, metallurgical, structural, chemical) from a school of engineering with at least one professional engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). However, if you do not possess such a professional engineering degree, you may still satisfy the professional knowledge requirements if you have current Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in one of the relevant disciplines from any U.S. State or Territory; or if you successfully passed an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) written examination administered by a State Board of Engineering Examiners; or if you have either a related professional degree or at least 60 semester hours of specified engineering-related college courses combined with at least a year of professional engineering work experience performed under professional engineer supervision and guidance.

Manual Chapter 1245 full qualifications is required.
