As Deputy Chief Counsel, the incumbent of this position is the chief assistant to the Chief Counsel in managing the Office of the Chief Counsel, United States Mint. The Chief Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to the Director of the Mint and top Mint officials with regard to all functions and activities of the Mint.
Duties
As an Attorney-Advisor (Deputy Chief Counsel), you will:
Assist the Chief Counsel in managing the Office of the Chief Counsel, United States Mint.
Assist the Chief Counsel in providing legal advice and counsel to the Director of the Mint and top Mint officials with regard to all functions and activities of the Mint.
Direct, or personally perform, exhaustive and detailed research on complicated problems and reviews, or prepare, recommendations as to the position to be taken by the Chief Counsel's office on legal issues related to major programs.
Represent the Mint in various third-party proceedings, such as hearings on discrimination complaints and MSPB hearings.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Be an active member in good standing of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state or territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico
AND
You must have at least seven (7) years of experience as a practicing attorney in the Federal service or private sector with demonstrated experience in the following areas: general and administrative law.
At least two years of experience must have been at the GS-14 level or equivalent.
AND
You must possess a J.D. from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). An unofficial transcript may be submitted at the time of application; however, if selected you will be required to provide an official transcript. In addition to the qualification requirements identified above, in accordance with Treasury's Department-wide policy on employment in the excepted service (HCIS 302), one year of time-in-grade is required prior to being placed into a Treasury position at the next higher grade level if the attorney worked in the federal government with the previous 52 weeks.
