The incumbent serves as a Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist in NNSA's Office of the Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs (NA-10) working as a first level supervisor who exercises both technical and administrative direction of federal employees on a substantially full time basis for the preponderance of time.

Salary Range by Location: Albuquerque, NM NN-04- $123,485-$188,821 Germantown, MD & Washington DC NN-04- $139,395-$191,900 As a Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist you will: Direct a segment of complex professional, scientific, engineering, administrative, technical and/or support programs and develops work plans based on external trends and events. Implement changes to the organization's strategic plan to meet evolving and changing goals and expectations. Provide technical leadership, direction and oversight of sophisticated and technologically advanced national nuclear weapons, nonproliferation, or other research programs or policy initiatives that are an important facet of the NNSA mission. Plan and establish work schedules, deadlines, and standards. Assigns work based on priorities, difficulty, requirements and employee capabilities. Develop performance standards. Track progress and quality of employee performance. Develop and promulgate short and long range program plans/strategies and policy guidance, including resource levels and program priorities, overall requirements, schedules, milestones and reporting. Initiate and maintain regular and recurring contacts with high-ranking civilian or military supervisors and senior management officials in NNSA headquarters and administrative staffs, or comparable personnel in other Federal agencies; contracting project officers and high-level technical staff of M&O firms.

801 - Degree: professional engineering. The curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

OR

Combination of education and experience: college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. There are alternate methods to meeting the engineering educational requirement (e.g., holding current professional engineering registration, having passed the EIT examination, or having completed specified academic courses or a related degree).
