This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. As a Social Worker Program Coordinator (identified locally as the MH-RRTP Admissions Coordinator) at the GS-12 level, the incumbent functions are simultaneously in an administrative and clinical capacity. It is anticipated that 50% of the effort will involve administrative responsibilities related to managing the admissions process for the MH-RRTP unit. The remaining effort will be devoted to direct patient care. The MH-RRTP is a 20-bed facility within the Behavioral Medicine Service and provides patient-centered, recovery-oriented treatment and rehabilitation services to Veterans who have mental health and substance use disorders that are often complex and co-occur with medical concerns and psychosocial needs, such as employment and housing. This is accomplished through the provision of services designed for improving functional status, sustaining treatment and rehabilitation gains, recovery, community integration, and break the cycle or recidivism, The MM-RRTP has a special emphasis on treating Veterans with co-occurring substance use disorders, PTSD, SMI and/or other diagnoses.The incumbent functioning as Admissions Coordinator is capable of practicing at the advanced level and has specialized knowledge of practice to a particular diagnosis or population. The incumbent also has experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. They may have certification or other post masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. The incumbent functioning as the Admissions Coordinator demonstrates exceptional administrative and case management skills. The incumbent will be required to independently assess referrals from across the VHA system nationally to determine appropriateness for admission to the MHRRTP. In most cases, veterans referred to MHRRTP are psychiatrically complex and require a high level of expertise in understanding and treating co-occurring SUDs and other mental health problems. The incumbent will also facilitate referrals to other treatment services as needed throughout the catchment area to VISN/VHA and community mental health resources as indicated. The incumbent will engage in ongoing case management of persons awaiting admission to treatment. This will involve monitoring the mental and physical health of persons awaiting treatment and facilitating access to needed services to regain or maintain stability. BASIC REQUIREMENTS. The basic requirements for employment as a VHA social worker are prescribed by statute in 38 U.S.C. § 7402(b)(9), as amended by section 205 of Public Law 106-419, enacted November 1, 2000. To qualify for appointment as a social worker in VHA, all applicants must meet the following: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. (d) Skill in independently implementing different treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals. (e) Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
