Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information. Duties

Supervises and directs functions in support of accounting transactions related to contract payments, personal services payment, and material transactions for goods and services for the organization. Oversees subordinate Accounting Technicians, or through subordinate Lead Accounting Technicians, oversees the accomplishment of technical work in accordance with policy, directives, regulations, and reporting requirements. Interprets regulations, requirements, and policies, including changes, updates, and automated systems modifications, to ensure compliance. Trains and assists lower level accounting technicians with techniques to correct and process accounting inputs. Plans and schedules work to be accomplished; sets and adjusts short-term priorities for completion of work. Positions filled at less than the full performance level will be developmental in nature.

Qualifications

Human Resources will determine your qualifications for each entry grade level based on your interest and the additional following criteria. GS-07 To qualify for the GS-07 level of this position applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience Is Defined As: Maintaining accounting or financial ledgers, posting financial transactions, preparing accounting reports, reconciling accounts, and working with a variety of accounting and financial automated systems. GS-08 To qualify for the GS-08 level of this position applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience Is Defined As: Processing and auditing complex contracts and vendor pay entitlement transactions, reconciling pay system and financial system data and working with a variety of electronic systems to review and resolve pay transaction issues. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

• One year of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement when it is directly related to the position being filled.

Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
