The Lead Supply Technician position is located in the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by the Logistic Service (includes clinic, wards and operating rooms, and secondary storage areas, etc.). The incumbent will work within established shifts, but may be required to work evening, overnight or weekend hours.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, items listed below: Distributes supplies and material in VA Health Care System and supported catchment area. Assist managers and customer complete work orders for needed equipment. Fills request for items based on daily schedules of need or on an emergent basis as appropriate. Delivers supplies in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition. Deliveries will be to wards clinics and other secondary or may be in remote sites. Delivery by motor vehicle may be required. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instruction, reference materials and supplies. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor. Interacts with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and either resolved or escalated to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists as needed. Monitors status and progress of work makes day-today adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work. Checks on work progress, or spot checks work not requiring review. Maintains records on stock level and recommends revisions in stock levels as needed. Utilized a pager or similar device to expedite the delivery of items needed in user areas throughout the facility. Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of assigned work. Monitors work conditions. Reports to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems or issues. Provides information to supervisor on concerns for promotions, reassignments, recognition, outstanding performance and personnel needs. Communicates any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures to the supervisor (orally or written). Ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the inventory management specialist. Cleans assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guideline, standard operating procedures, and Joint Commission Standards. Gives on the job training to new employees. Maintains knowledge on policies, procedures, directives, or other guidelines as necessary and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that comes up. Reviews completed work to see that supervisor instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met. Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services. Pulls stock inventory and material from main inventory for delivery, replenishing stock inventory. Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required. Performs daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment of orders. Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock. Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems. Completes specialty cart preparation and stocking. Supports wall-to-wall inventories. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Sunday; Rotating schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays: (1st Shift) 4:30 am - 1:00 pm; (2nd Shift) 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; (3rd Shift) 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm; (4th Shift) 8:30 pm - 5:00 am; or any other 8 hour variant Virtual: This is not a virtual or remote position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/13/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility.. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking the entire day and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weight more than 100+ pounds). Without proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
