About the Position: Serves as a Medical Technician (Telemetry) on a Medicine/Telemetry ward with surgical overflow at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Liberty, NC.

Duties
Perform duties relating to cardiac monitoring, EKG monitoring and miscellaneous clerical duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or the NCOIC.
Connect patient to the emergency equipment such as the cardiac defibrillator, and assuring proper lead placement.
Record cardiac rhythms during cardiac arrests and resuscitation, cardioversion and during the administration of intravenous push medications such as digoxin, verapamil, adenosine, etc.
Interpret rhythm strips to include rate (atrial and ventricular), PR interval, QRS interval, rhythm, ectopic beats and ST parameters.
Attach electrodes to patient's chest and extremities to record prescribed heart tracing.
Observe cardiac/EKG monitoring of patients continuously during assigned work period.
Identify life threatening arrhythmias, and take immediate action.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must obtain and maintain a favorable result from a criminal history background check as a condition of employment.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- The work may require the employee to work days, evenings, rotating shifts, and extended hours. Weekend or holiday work is limited for some employees.
- Must be able to pass a cardiac monitoring examination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or educations requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing 1) cardiac/EKG monitoring of patients; and 2) documenting EKG interpretations in patient records; and 3) interpreting rhythm strips. The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: Experience in operating, supervising the operation of, or instructing in the operation of equipment related to the particular specialization for which application is made. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04)

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with a major field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as Surgical Technology, OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, medical technology, or physics. Of the 24 semester hours, at least 12 must have been in a field directly related to the specialization of the position as identified in (a).

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
