Joining the Secret Service, Office of Equity and Employee Support Services will allow you to use data modeling and statistical analysis to enhance agency programs. This Statistician position starts at a salary of $117,962.00 GS-13 Step 1, with potential to $153,354.00, GS-13 Step 10. Direct Hire Authority: This position will be filled through the Office of Personnel Management's Direct Hire Authority. The "Rule of Three," Category Rating and Veterans Preference will not apply to this vacancy.

Duties

The selectee will serve as Statistician in the Office of Equity and Employee Support Services. Typical work assignments include: Oversee the collection, validity, compilation, analysis, and dissemination of data for a variety of analytical products to ensure regulatory compliance. Develop conclusions based on data analysis to deliver programmatic efficacy recommendations to management. Determine potential limitations of current analytical approaches, and work to develop solutions to these issues. Utilize statistical modeling and computer software to evaluate both established and potential agency programs and policies. Act as a technical and advisory authority within the statistics field, to guide agency employees with issues within the discipline.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Specialized Experience requirements as noted below: Basic Requirement for GS-13 Position: A. Bachelor's degree (or higher): that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. AND Specialized Experience: GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $117,962.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Reviewing data to complete statistical analysis for human capital programs. Utilizing computer software to create statistical models and; Presenting statistical projects to inform a variety of audiences. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
