About the Position:
This position is located in Fort Knox, Kentucky- Facilities Division Operations.
All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. (5 CFR 575.203)
Duties
Perform installations, maintenance and troubleshooting service on commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
Perform maintenance on facilities electrical systems such as: motors, illumination, circuit breakers, safety interlocks, switches, power outlets, and electrical distribution panels.
Install or repair plumbing systems such as sewage, water, oil, water closets, showers/tubs, and fire sprinkler systems.
Use shop mathematics to plan and compute complex projects features.
Interpret and apply building plans and blueprints.
Interact with customers and coordinate appropriate actions with other contractors.
Use hand and power tools common to electrical trade areas.
Use tools and equipment such as test equipment, system sets, frequency and multi meters, voltmeters, and amphometers.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- One year trial or probationary period may be required.
- Appointment subject to a suitability /fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
- This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Must possess a Chloro-Fluorocarbon (CFC) Certification.
- A valid state driver's license is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision. installing HVAC units; performing maintenance on facilities electrical systems such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and maintaining logs relating to equipment history - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Heaviest weight handled by the employee unassisted will normally be 50 pounds and with assistance 100 pounds or more. Uses lifting devices or obtains assistance in moving heavy items. Works from ladders, scaffolding and/or platforms where systems are in hard to reach places, requiring the employee to work in close quarters or in hard to reach places, requiring the employee to work in close quarters or in cramped positions. Work requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate toots when assembling units and replacing defective components, coordination for reading and setting gauges, checking refrigerant leaks, and adjusting controls, and color discrimination to recognize color codes. Work frequently requires stooping, stretching, bending and kneeling for long periods of time.
Working Conditions: Works indoors and outdoors on elevated structures and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from face masks and/or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases; fumes and acids. Employee is exposed to the dangers of moving equipment, energized electric circuits, sharp metal edges, and toxic fumes while performing the duties of the position. Exposure to electrical conductors, moving objects, sharp edges, etc., may occur along with danger to cuts, burns, and respiratory ailments. Typical safety equipment required on the job is safety shoes, safety glasses, and hard hats.
