This position is located in Padre Island National Seashore, in the Resource and Visitor Protection Division.

Duties

This position will serve as a front-line representative of the National Park Service, answering questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities and required fees. You will perform money handling and remitting of government funds according to NPS and US Treasury regulations. Reviewing and verifying functionality of fee related systems according to regulatory and program requirements. This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. Padre Island National Seashore was established in 1962 to protect the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world, and the park's more than 130,000 acres host a rich variety of cultural and natural resources. Located between the Gulf of Mexico and the Laguna Madre, Padre Island contains coastal prairie, wetland, and wind tidal flat habitats. Recreational opportunities include saltwater fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, and birding. The park is located approximately 25 miles southeast of the city of Corpus Christi, Texas (population of the metropolitan area is approximately 430,000), 170 miles southeast of San Antonio, and 240 miles southwest of Houston. Corpus Christi has all the amenities of a small city, including a wide variety of housing, shopping, and recreational opportunities, including an aquarium, museums, sporting events, concerts, and botanical gardens. Several school districts, hospitals, and universities/colleges are located within 30 miles of the park boundary. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/08/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data (such as fee and stock data); performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; or using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 4 years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. One full year of academic study is 30 semester hours. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcript or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies for each course the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. If you are qualifying based on education and you do not submit specific course work information as described, your application will be rated as not qualified. A copy of your official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty, if selected). -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE: only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement) and 1 academic year of study beyond the second year from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education), equals 100% of the total requirement. (You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts indicating the number of credit hours and courses in order to qualify based on a combination of experience and education). The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
