About the Position: Serves as the Social Media Content Specialist responsible for developing modern and engaging content to support the battalion's engagement strategy for reaching its internal and external audiences as part of the recruiting mission for the U.S. Army and Army Reserve.
TEMP Appointment: This position is a TEMPORARY Not to Exceed 1 year position and may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years.
Duties
Assist the Advertising and Public Affairs Chief with planning social media strategies and content to communicate U.S. Army Recruiting Command’s (USAREC) communication focus areas, priorities, and missions at the battalion level.
Provide or coordinate for social media coverage of major communication events and efforts using the battalion’s official social media platforms.
Work regularly with USAREC’s web content manager and social media marketing representative.
Research new and innovative tools, programs, systems, software, services and social media industry trends to maintain the battalion’s currency and relevance with social media efforts and strategies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent may have to work alternate work schedule to include nights and weekends.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Using and managing a wide range of social media platforms and other software platforms; (2) Planning and creating multimedia content using graphic design, photo manipulation and video editing software and techniques on various websites and social media accounts; (3) Using analytic techniques to gather, analyze, and report on social media data; AND (4) Providing social media coverage for major events. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as Social Media, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, and Marketing. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
