About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Mental Health, Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune, NC. The mission of the Directorate is to provide mental health services and treatment to active duty service members who are suffering from mental health issues, to include substance abuse/addiction.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Duties
Accepts, assesses, and responds to referrals from other members of the clinical team as well as actively engaging in case finding and identifying patients having problems requiring social work involvement.
Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team and quality improvement activities as assigned.
Counsels patient and family members having problems concerning family/personal relationships.
Conducts individual, family, and group therapy sessions.
Maintains accurate records of initial actions, changes, and follow-up appointments.
Provides Social Work Services to outpatients while functioning as a member of the clinical team with other professional or para professional personnel involved in patient care.
Requirements
- This position requires 10% TDY.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires a Childcare Background Check.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position requires a physical and heavy lifting up to 20lbs.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Clinical):
Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with patient psychosocial assessments, implementing behavioral health treatment plans, and assisting with providing individual or group clinical counseling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-11, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, that is directly related to the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Experience and Education: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 36 hours (total semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
AND
Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands. Must have practiced as an independent licensed clinical social worker within past two years.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
