Duties
Assigns tasks to workers, passing on to them instructions received from supervisor.
Operates one or more vehicles which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds up to 32,000 pounds.
Performs routine operator maintenance (e.g., checks oil, gas, battery, cables, etc.). Performs recoupment of fuel, batteries, etc. and makes minor repairs as necessary.
Demonstrates the proper techniques in operating powered equipment and the techniques for constructing crates or boxes.
Provides hands on training to employees on Wood working, SPI research, tools, equipment, and operating system (WMS).
Operates equipment in warehouses with narrow aisles, in confined spaces such as trucks on congested loading docks and throughout the Center.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Effort:
Uses power and manual tools while performing repetitive, tiring work for long periods of time. Frequent standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and arm movement is required. Sometimes works in cramped or awkward positions. The work requires continuous lifting, carrying, and using tools and materials that weigh 40 pounds or over. Sometime heavier weights are lifted and moved with the assistance of others or lifting devices such as MHE, floor hoists or cranes. As required by duty statement, operates MHE such as forklift, tractor, pickup truck and/or other general-purpose vehicle. The employee frequently lifts, holds, and carries moderately heavy objects, e.g., cables, chains, and shackles. On occasion, the employee climbs on/off platforms and in/out of open rail cars to attach rigging or to signal the crane operator. When installing rigging gear, the employee kneels, reaches, bends, stoops, pushes, and pulls. Since rigging gear is attached to bulky and unwieldy material, the employee must have to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work involves some standing or walking for prolonged periods of time. If working in hazardous materials areas, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes.
Working Conditions:
Wood Working is normally performed in a shop or other enclosed areas which may be drafty, damp, or overheated. Sometimes employee works outside in fair weather, and occasionally in bad weather. Frequently exposed to sawdust, as well as other nose and lung irritations. Frequent exposure to loud noises from power saws, hammers, etc. Subject to possible cuts from flying wooden particles, nails, fasteners, etc. May be required to wear protective eyeglasses, ear devices, or gloves. Most rigging work will be performed outdoors. Other work may be performed in enclosed warehouses, buildings, or outdoor staging and storage areas. The employee is exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Assignments may be performed in work areas that are noisy with heavy mobile equipment (crane) and MHE traffic. Rigging assignments involve exposure to serious injuries resulting from swinging loads, falling objects, and broken cables and slings. The employee is also subject to cuts, bruises. Burns, back strains, broken bones and other injuries. Safety and Health Requirements: Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned, as directed by the supervisor.
