Duties
Plan and construct complex wooden boxes, crates, skids, and bracing structures with non-standard features (e.g., exteriors of irregular shape or unusual size and weight, support and custom cut and built bracing).
Develop, improvise, and modify complex and critical construction plans, patterns, jigs, and sequences to incorporate several irregular shapes and non-standard features into the same end product.
Plan and select proper material, tools, and equipment for a variety of packing projects.
Make technical judgments, decisions, and sequences of jobs to be accomplished from beginning to the end of the product.
Operates material handling equipment to move palletized goods or individual items to designated areas. MHE includes forklifts with lifting capacity up to 80,000 pounds, container handlers, front end loader, primary movers, and semi-tractor/trailer.
Constructs wooden parts, dunnage, or sections used to secure or encase items in containers or hold boxes in place, e.g., gates, bins, bracing, dividers.
Cuts and assembles wood framing, installs shock mounts, and cradles or cushions fragile items such as electronic assemblies, radar housings, gyroscopes, etc.

To qualify for a Wood Worker, your qualifications must include:

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and that you have the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
