This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction. The primary purpose of this position is protect the nation from weapons of mass destruction, including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats. This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Physical Scientist (Scientific/Technical Intelligence), GS-1301-14, your typical work assignments may include: Conceiving, planning, monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating concepts by planning ideas and proposals for highly innovative applied research projects. Developing comprehensive collection plans to address very difficult intelligence gaps through innovative use of existing collection assets. Managing highly complex program(s) to collect, analyze, and present data on appropriate topics from a wide variety of traditional and nontraditional sources. Developing approaches for testing the validity of hypotheses on critical technical issues and trend projections to overcome limitations of traditional methods. Qualifications

Basic Requirement: You must meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1301 series as listed below:OPTION A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR OPTION B: Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the minimum qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: Developing and utilizing new research methodologies, including use of sophisticated computer models, integrative data bases and surrogate testing or refines traditional techniques to design innovative analytical approaches to very difficult intelligence problems. Developing overall analytical objectives, project scope and emphasis through a broad assessment of customer requirements, activity and departmental mission objectives and significant new information or trends in assigned subject area. Developing and efficiently executing basic and applied research and development that results in the new and transformational technologies need to counter threats. Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement. Note: Current or former Federal employees MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary. Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. This is a Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Department of Homeland Security Headquarters Drug-Free Workplace Program. The incumbent is required to sign a Condition of Employment form (for certain positions identified as critical under the drug testing program) and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment, reassignment, or transfer, and employee will be subject to random testing while employed with the Department in a TDP.
