The Justice Management Division (JMD) Office of General Counsel advises JMD management and Department of Justice leadership on a variety of legal matters relating to the management and administration of the Department, including appropriations, procurement, personnel, FOIA and Privacy Act, financial management, agency organizational management, and delegations of authority. OGC attorneys also litigate before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Government Accountability Office.

As a General Attorney GS-0905-14/15, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Collaborative interaction with the General Counsel and attorney colleagues in the office.
Research, review, and analysis of relevant statutes, regulations, administrative and judicial decisions.
Provide legal advice or opinions to Department of Justice managers and offices to assist with formulating administrative policy or to make difficult management decisions.
Provide written advice on the legal ramifications of new or proposed regulations.
Review agency policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance, recommending changes, as necessary.
Defending the agency in EEO cases before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and bid protests before the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
Requirements

- Must complete a Background Investigation to include drug testing
- Selective Service Registration is required, as applicable

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar in good standing in any State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia, and have at least 3 years post J.D. legal experience to qualify for the position at the GS-14 grade level and no less than four years post-J.D. legal experience to qualify for the position at the GS-15.
OGC is interested in candidates with experience in government contracts and litigation, including bid protests before the Government Accountability Office and/or experience in as many of OGC's federal agency practice areas as possible. Candidates need to demonstrate the ability to efficiently and thoroughly research and incisively analyze a wide variety of complex issues.
Applicants must have superior academic and professional credentials as well as exceptional writing and oral communication skills. Applicants must also possess the legal skills and sound judgment necessary to evaluate the sensitive issues that arise in the course of attorney misconduct investigations.

Therefore, you should provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
