This Pipefitter position is located in the Maintenance and Operations section of the Facilities Management Service Line, Tomah, Wisconsin VA Medical Center and installs, modifies and repairs new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment.
Duties
Duties include:
Works on preventive maintenance, repair and installation of all types of plumbing, steam heating fixtures and their allied equipment. Has knowledge and ability to maintain, repair, and install traps (float, thermostatic; inverted bucket, pulse, bimetallic, and other types); proper application in steam heating system is critical; control valves (pneumatic, thermal, bimetallic, and other types); pressure reducing regulators and pilot regulators; pressure equalizing, pneumatic, and thermal expansion sensors.
Must know design application for different type systems or contact consultant type person in this field (supervisor). Such systems include condensate return pumps (positive displacement), centrifugal type vertical or horizontal, related couplers, mounts, bearings, seals, and impellers. Works on wall recessed radiators, unit heater (vertical and horizontal), convector, *forced draft heater, and all. related type thermostatic controls, pneumatic controlled heat exchangers (steam/heating water) for domestic dishwashers, and hydronic heating. Also works on related appurtenance, vacuum release, relief valves, (critical) proper application to heating system or domestic, expansion joints, types packing and lubrication. Hydronic heating system: pump circulating, centrifugal, horizontal, and vertical related couplers, etc.
Trouble shoots heating systems. Shall know the theory and principles: Why and how the heat is generated: Where location is being treated: What each component of the heating system does and how to repair it.Work includes installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of the visible water, air, gas, and sewer lines.
Maintain and repair laundry, dietetic, and other equipment such as deep well pumps, water heaters, bathtubs, lavatories, sinks, therapeutic bath, circulating pumps, etc. To accomplish. work must be able to do arc and acetylene welding and use other tools common to the trade. Maintains, repairs, tests, and installs all outside plumbing which includes sanitary sewer, water, gas, fire main, and underground sprinkler systems.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Position is subject to shift changes as needed to include weekends and holidays.
