You will serve as a SUPERVISORY INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER in the Facility Engineering Branch (Code 1460.2), Technical Support Division (Code 1460), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will supervise a subordinate workforce assigned to design, coordinate, and monitor NFPC plant modernization, major maintenance, environmental and safety projects. You will ensure timely performance of a satisfactory amount and quality of work. You will serve as the technical expert providing direction on all NFPC facility issues overseeing equipment requirements and facilities. You will provide engineering oversight to maintain a workplace in compliance with the laws, statutes, and regulations governing the foundry and propeller manufacturing facility. You will assign and review work of subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of difficulty and the requirements of assignments and the capabilities of employees. You will oversee NFPC facilities. You will plan work schedules, estimate completion dates, estimate manpower requirements, budgetary needs and request manpower assistance as required to ensure timely completion of work.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying engineering theory, concepts, principles, and practices related to the design, overhaul, maintenance, and operation of complex industrial manufacturing plant and related integral systems and general purpose facilities. Experience working with others who apply environmental and safety theories, concepts, principles, and practices to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Experience modifying practices and/or equipment and techniques to help others solve environmental/safety problems such as emissions control, pollution, and abatement. Experience interpreting federal, state, and local laws and regulations and applying these standards to existing and new facilities. Experience communicating both orally and in writing to prepare reports and presentations, coordinate projects, resolve problems, and to represent the NFPC on all facility related issues. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
