About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Director for Surgery, Organ Transplant, Building 9, 1st Floor. This is a shared office space. Tour of duty 0700-1530. The coordinator will work closely with multidisciplinary team members to provide excellent care to our active duty, dependents, and VA beneficiaries. Duties

Provide comprehensive continuum of care for the End Stage Organ Disease for patients, and their families, undergoing diagnosis of organ failure, evaluation for organ transplant and kidney, kidney pancreas, pancreas alone or liver transplant. Serve as the central resource professional for the coordination of care of the transplant patient. Participate in the decision regarding organ acceptance/rejection and assist with recipient selection according to Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) regulations. Reviews, evaluates and presents donor organ information (e.g. anatomy, preservation time and technique, organ condition, medical social history) to the physician. Educate patients and their families to assure understanding of treatment options. Collate and record information gathered in the case management process to evaluate these services to ensure that the plan of care is followed and meets the patients' needs. Utilize professional nursing knowledge to serve as a Clinical Transplant Coordinator of a multidisciplinary organ transplant team. Complete patient records and documentation per DOD, JCAHO, CMS, UNOS requirements. Maintain updated spreadsheet of all patients list time, status, cardiac, cancer screening due dates, last HLA serum date. Communicate all lab, radiographic, and consultation requirements to patients in writing.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position may require the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Employees are required to be a Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC), or must obtain certification within 12 months of employee’s date of hire.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Nurse (Specialist/Transplant Coordinator): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes conducting comprehensive evaluation of and coordination of patients; providing education/instruction to patients and families; coordinating patient care with various health care professionals and clinics to facilitate patient management. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
