This position is located in the Electric Shop of the Maintenance and Operations Section of the Facilities Management Service of the New Mexico VA Health Care System. The primary purpose of the Electrician position is to perform preventative maintenance, testing, and repairs on electrical equipment and systems located throughout the facility.

Duties

Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Troubleshoots circuits, controls and systems to locate, repair and replace defective components. Installs and repairs distribution panels, boxes, and various electrical systems. Installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains electrical lines, circuits, generator systems. Prepares sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes Interprets and applies manufacturer's handbooks, technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to determine material, tools, and equipment needed Uses a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps. Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD10181A Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms. He/she often works in portions of the electrical systems requiring attention that are in cramped, dirty, and hard to reach locations. The work involves prolonged crouching and standing, and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment ladders, scaffolding parts and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry over 50 pounds.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
