You will serve as a Supervisory General Engineer in the Surface Warfare Directorate, Surface Ship Modernization Program of NAVSEA HQ FIELD SUPPORT.
Duties
You will serve as the principal technical advisor to the Program Manager for an unprecedented major modernization of the Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG).
You will provide leadership to a team of engineering ship integration, and test experts accountable for the detailed planning, execution, and test of a complete maintenance and modernization package that will deliver improvements to ships.
You will serve as the Program Office liaison to ensure alignment of technical requirements and budget requirements through Program Objectives Memorandum in support of successful integration of the various systems required for this modernization.
You will provide technical guidance to ensure close coordination and planning of the DDG Modernization 2.0 (MOD 2.0) program.
You will lead risk and innovation initiatives to define and pursue novel solutions for driving risk out of the program while finding options and opportunities to reduce duration of availabilities.
You will develop an executable land-based test strategy that may also include a production test center in support of end-to-end system validation prior to installation.
You will provide technical oversight of availability package development and execution and ensure the adequacy of ship installation drawings, work specifications, and work packages.
You will closely manage days of maintenance delay drivers such as Liaison Action Reports, adjudication of waterfront engineering decisions, and contractual milestone adherence.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-03 (GS-13) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer managing engineering projects (plans, designs, repair and maintenance) to support the modernization of ships.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
