This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Modified Direct Hire Auth, Section 1109; PL, 116-92, dated 12/20/2019 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position serve as Maintenance Mechanic Leader to perform journey level repair duties.
Duties
Plans and completes Carpentry/Roofing/Masonry projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation.
Perform various gas welding processes to weld metals and alloys of various sizes and shapes.
Constructs, installs, modifies, alters, repairs, and replaces all sheet metal components.
Repair, replace, and installs all types of key locks in or on building structures.
Preform Asbestos and Mold removal operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- This position is subject to rotating shifts, weekend and or holiday work schedules.
- The employee is required to successfully pass physical examinations as required by Federal and Office of Safety and Occupational Health Administration guides.
- This position is designated as essential during inclement weather.
- The incumbent must obtain and maintain North Carolina or American Water Works Association backflow certification.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a Universal (types I, II and III) Freon handling certification as required by 40 CFR Part 82, subpart F. Certificate MUST be uploaded with your application package or you will be rated ineligible
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Maintenance Mechanic Leader duties to Lead and work alongside personnel working in the following trades and crafts areas: welding, sheet metal fabrication, carpentry, roofing, masonry, locksmith, sign fabrication/installation, and mold/asbestos removal. I Insure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available and check work in progress when finished. I can repair and preform maintenance of electronic keying devices. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort - Employee works in shops and at job sites. Strenuous physical exertion is often required. Employee may lift and move materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time. Employee works from ladders, scaffolding, and roofs with height less than 100 feet.
Working Conditions - Work is performed both inside and outside. Employee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels, sawdust, fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and metal shop related shop installed equipment.
