This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard,  Base Elizabeth City, Maintenance Branch of the Facilities Engineering Division, Elizabeth City, NC.

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a flexible trades worker performing a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, unskilled trade work depending on the nature of the assignment and an electrician and to personally perform duties and responsibilities that requires skill in those trades.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.Typical work assignments include:

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (Screen-out element)Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of measuring instruments.Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)Ability to use and maintain tools and equipmentKnowledge of materials.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position does not have a positive education requirement. If you are including education on your resume, report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. See Required Documents section for detail.
