This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Structural Group in Baltimore, MD.
Duties
You will be responsible for performing all kinds of trade tasks involved in constructing, repairing, or renovating a wide variety of types and sizes of marine craft and vessels.Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member. Typical duties include:* Performing all kinds of sheetmetal, boat joiner tasks including working from blueprints, drawings, and specifications.* Providing draft marking, boot-topping lines, numerals, and identification slash markings; aligns and sets peloruses, compasses.* Constructing staging for ship work, building temporary wood supports and shoring of various kinds.* Providing and maintaining ladders, access gangways, safety railings and covers, step stools, protective coverings and tarpaulins and miscellaneous crating and uncrating.* Removing, preparing decks and installing ceramic tile, vinyl tile, vinyl matting, latex underlayments, terrazzo, cement, epoxy decks, etc.* Building various supporting structures for ship while it is under construction; building fixed ways, sliding ways, launching cradle and cushioning structures in preparation for launching.* Installing joiner coamings and furrings, nomex panels and aluminum bulkhead and ceiling paneling, locker and furniture foundations, and all furniture and furnishings.* Cutting, punching, drilling and otherwise shaping sheetmetal using shears, rolls, saws, brakes, bending machines and other metal forming machines.* Reviewing job orders, schedules, and other requests for services and discusses same with his/her supervisor.* Inspecting work in progress to assure that satisfactory standards for quality and quantity are met.
Requirements
- Applicants MUST submit a SF-50 and/or DD-214 at the time of application.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
