These positions are located within the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System, one at the Grand Island VA Medical Center in Grand Island, NE and one at the Lincoln VA Clinic in Lincoln, NE. The primary purpose of this position is to provide yoga instruction to promote, restore, and preserve health and well-being of Veterans, and supporting additional recreational activities.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major Duties: Prepares and sets up yoga setting and equipment to support scheduled events and activities. Instructs Veterans on the safe use of yoga equipment; ensures the safety of patients during all activities on and off station. Conducts well-being classes, either group or individual, for the purpose of promoting heath and well-being. Provides informal input to the supervisor concerning pertinent topics to meet facility or patient needs. Coordinates with other staff members concerning the use of yoga facilities for activities and develops and maintains calendar of programs and activities. Develops marketing requests and advertising efforts for special events to encourage participation in yoga programs. Contacts VA Point of Contact in case of emergency or other pressing issues. Refers patients appropriately when mental or physical issues are out of the "scope of practice" of the yoga instructor. Acts as a mentor to yoga trainees as needed. Asks permission every time to touch/adjust someone during a class. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. ADDITIONAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience that provided the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Specialized experience is experience as a yoga instructor or assistant. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. OR GRADUATE EDUCATION: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard. However, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Nine hours of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position (Yoga Instructor) can be used to qualify in lieu of specialized experience. Transcripts are required if using education to qualify. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. Experience must be detailed in your resume and transcripts are required. PREFERRED CERTIFICATION: Certification of Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 200) is preferred. PREFERRED LICENSE: You may be required to provide transportation for off station recreational outings. Therefore, possession of a current and valid state-issued driver's license is preferred. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs. Therefore, please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: CommunicationCustomer ServiceManages and Organizes InformationSelf-Esteem IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work requires considerable physical exertion in order to perform the assigned duties. The environment involves everyday risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of and office or training room setting. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
