This position is located at the VHA Medical Center-VA Nebraska-Western Iowa HCS in Omaha, Nebraska and Grand Island, Nebraska, serving as a Recreation Assistant to implement the objectives of the Integrative Health Coordinating Center and the VHA Office of Patient-Centered Care and Cultural Transformation. The primary purpose of this position is to provide yoga instruction to promote, restore, and preserve health and well-being of Veterans, and supporting additional recreational activities.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Prepares and sets up yoga setting and equipment to support scheduled events and activities. Instructs Veterans on the safe use of yoga equipment; ensures the safety of patients during all activities on and off station. Conducts well-being classes, either group or individual, for the purpose of promoting heath and well-being. Provides informal input to the supervisor concerning pertinent topics to meet facility or patient needs. Coordinates with other staff members concerning the use of yoga facilities for activities and develops and maintains calendar of programs and activities. Develops marketing requests and advertising efforts for special events to encourage participation in yoga programs. Contacts VA Point of Contact in case of emergency or other pressing issues. Refers patients appropriately when mental or physical issues are out of the "scope of practice" of the yoga instructor. Acts as a mentor to yoga trainees as needed. Asks permission every time to touch/adjust someone during a class. Additional duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Recruitment and Relocation Incentive is authorized. Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; teacher's aide in elementary school recreation or physical education program; aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, boating and fishing areas, etc.; aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance/accountability of inventory control for such property in a recreation facility; or aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed six (6) months of graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required. Education or internship must be directly related to this position, such ascourses related to recreation or physical education. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience are also qualifying. PREFERRED CERTIFICATION: Certification of Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 200) is preferred. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: ClericalCommunicationCustomer ServiceInterpersonal SkillsTechnical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work requires considerable physical exertion in order to perform the assigned duties. The environment involves everyday risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of and office or training room setting. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
