This position is located in the Engineering Department of the Western New York VAMC, Buffalo location. The incumbent is responsible for leading and providing guidance to 4 High Voltage Electricians and 5 Electricians in a variety of advanced level work related to the facility maintenance which includes installation, testing, preventive maintenance to the Medical Center's 23,000/4160-volt primary electrical distribution system, and service calls as it relates to the electrical trade.
Duties
The incumbent will be responsible to the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor for assuring that the work assignments or other workings of the group are carried out by passing on to other workers the instructions received from his supervisor, getting the work started and to meet deadlines as required.
Incumbent plans the distribution of work to subordinates on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the work is evenly distributed.
Determines the equipment, tools, materials and maintenance required. Assures that materials, parts and equipment are ordered and delivered so that work can be accomplished in an orderly and timely manner.
The incumbent will work along with other employees of the unit and set the pace; performing the same work done by the subordinates and demonstrating proper work techniques and methods.
The incumbent will report to the Supervisor the status and progress of work as well as causes of any work delays. The incumbent will answer questions the Supervisor has on overall work operations and problems. Obtain needed information or decisions from Supervisor on problems that come up during work.

Maintaining a current knowledge, and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives.
Checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the Supervisors instructions, work sequence, blueprints, plans and deadlines have been met.
Incumbent prepares written reports when directed and maintains schedules, files, and records to ensure an on-going preventive maintenance program. I.e.: Maintenance reports that detail test results, readings, or time logs for each piece of equipment in the maintenance program.
Performs other related duties as assigned by Electrical Maintenance Supervisor

Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. Requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds, periodically up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 40 pounds.
The work is performed both inside and outside. The incumbent is sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters such as manholes, tunnels, and crawl spaces. Frequently exposed to the possibility of injury such as cuts and bruises, injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors.
