The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor work of heavy mobile equipment mechanics engages in maintenance and repair of special purpose and civil engineerng automotive equipment.

- Prolonged standing and walking, bending, working in strained, uncomfortable positions, lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Must be able to obtain appropriate government vehicle operator's permit.
- This is a key position. Incumbent must be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available, per AFI 36-507, Atch 5.11.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
- Incumbent must be certified at the Universal Technician Level of the VPV/HCOC Certification and Testing Programs.
- This position is designated by the Air Force as a Test Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.
- As a mandatory requirement for employment in this TDP, the incumbent is (A) to refrain from use of illegal drugs and (B) if required, to submit to urinalysis testing.
- The selectee must sign a statement acknowledging the position occupied is identified as a TDP.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-5803-09- Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Supervisor position. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead or supervise.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a wide range of principles, practices, and procedures relating to special purpose and heavy mobile equipment maintenance and repair work.
Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures relating to special purpose and heavy mobile equipment maintenance and repair work.
Knowledge of the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and/or test equipment common to special purpose and heavy mobile equipment maintenance and repair work.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications relating to special purpose and heavy mobile equipment maintenance and repair work.
Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
