The Program Support Assistant is responsible for support activities of both a technical and administrative nature directly related to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects and programs of the Section of Infectious Diseases. The incumbent supports the guiding principles of VAN-CH-CS and performs his/her duties in a manner that promotes patient safety, quality health care, outstanding customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran.
Duties
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Assists committees by attending meetings to fulfill documentation requirements, acts as recorder. Provides general clerical assistance such as making arrangements for meetings and coordinating administrative details.
Submit requests for supplies, services, equipment, and other administrative needs.
Generates a variety of documents such as policies, reports, and presentations.
Assists in establishing and maintaining current and accurate information systems that contain data records, materials, and follow-up documentation.
Provides assistance in performing analyses and or evaluating programs/projects. Obtains, organizes, files, and retrieves reports, correspondence, and data for use in preparing briefs and presentations.
Maintains control on incoming correspondence and distributes/delegates to appropriate staff, and follows up to ensure timely reply or action
Disseminates pertinent information to appropriate staff, administrators, and all other relevant medical center personnel.
Assists with maintaining and updating program websites with current information.
Enters data elements into the appropriate database and/or tracking systems.
Work Schedule: Monday Through Friday 08:00am - 04:30pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/04/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Proficiency Requirements: Applicants are required to have this skillset (Office Automation). Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
Typing requirement 40 words per minute typing speed -Words per minute are based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Knowledge of the mission, goals, priorities, commitments, policies and organizational objectives of the Medical Center.
Knowledge and skill in coordinating the work of several individuals and groups. Skill and ability to manage several projects simultaneously, interruptions in work flow, and multiple deadlines.
Expertise in spelling, grammar, punctuation, medical terminology and required formats, as well as spreadsheet preparation and data management. Skills of a qualified typist are required.
Knowledge and skill in oral and written communication, interpersonal and group dynamics.
Skill in operating computers and software systems and related equipment such as scanners, modems, etc.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It involves some bending, stooping, reach, lifting of light items, and walking. The work requires periods of concentration to organize, perform, coordinate, and report on all aspects of the development and support functions of the MRSN infection Control. The work is performed in an office or similar setting requiring normal safety precautions against everyday risks or discomforts.
