You will serve as a MAINTENANCE HELPER in the Facilities and Project Support Shop, Coating and Services Group, Production Resources Department of PSNS and IMF.
Duties
You will assist the General Maintenance Worker with the manufacture, assembly, service, disassembly, repair or re-assembly, laying out, cutting, fabrication, cleaning of equipment associated with temporary services.
You will maintain the installation of temporary hoses on non-nuclear and nuclear systems.
You will assist with the installation, maintenance and removal of electric and pneumatic vacuums used in ventilation and grit removal systems as requested by shops or projects.
You will determine the proper identification and conditions of a broad variety of hazardous material by visual observations or from supply list, catalog manuals and technical publications.
You will assist the General Maintenance Worker with the shipment, inventories, packaging, identification, and processing of radioactive and non-radioactive
material/wastes including non-reactor plant and reactor plant components.
You will respond along with the General Maintenance Worker to all nuclear and non-nuclear spills when required.
You will assist in the process of removing, separating, and processing of radioactive and non-radioactive hazardous material from reactor plants, submarine and surface ships for release or for shipment to authorized burial facilities.
You will assist the General Maintenance Worker with offloading oil from barges, fueling and defueling submarines, surface ships and service craft, assists with the
operation and accomplishment of valve lineups on SWOBs and other barges.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
