This position is located in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA),
Domestic Field Division, and reports to an Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC).
The purpose of the position is to oversee and manage the life cycle of all seized evidence which includes non-drug, drug, bulk, and high-value seized assets; and ensures the chain of custody and safekeeping of evidence.

As an Evidence Control Specialist, your typical work assignments may include:
Serving as the Division expert on evidence matters utilizing authority to coordinate evidence management responsibilities across Field Divisions.
Planning, organizing, managing, and evaluating evidence activities, operations and compliance procedures.
Developing best practices for consistent evidence handling, recordkeeping, and operational practices.
Performing annual/semi-annual inspections and ad hoc reviews of evidence at the field office and off-site facilities where evidence is stored and maintained.
Participating in the development of agency processes, training materials and protocols for evidence management via job aides, templates, and training materials, etc.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.
GS-9:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent GS -07. One year of specialized experience for this position includes: 1) Assisting with oversight, receipt, maintenance, safekeeping, and disposition of seized evidence; 2) Assisting with developing and distributing evidence inventory management policies and procedures; 3) Providing support to evidence inspections training on evidence processes and procedures. OR;
Education:Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.B or J.D., if related. NOTE: Graduate education must provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
GS-11:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent GS -09. One year of specialized experience for this position includes: 1)Providing oversight, receipt, maintenance, safekeeping, and disposition of seized evidence; 2) Managing policies and procedures for evidence control and distribution; 3) Serving as subject matter expert, or advisor for the organization in charge of evidence control program. OR;
Education: I have completed three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
