About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, North Atlantic Division, New York District, Surveys and Mapping Branch, Survey Support Section. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the world's premier engineering organization. Serves as Party Chief of a survey crew engaged in making hydrographic and topographic surveys which survey channels, harbors, rivers and adjacent topography of areas within the broad geographic boundaries of the district and region.

Duties

Serves as Party Chief of a survey crew engaged in making hydrographic and topographic surveys. Survey channels, harbors, rivers and adjacent topography of areas within the broad geographic boundaries of the district and region. Determines method of hydrographic surveys. Serves as field expert for hydrographic survey operations to conduct a variety of surveys in diverse and complex situations. Establishes priority and sequence of jobs in consideration of weather, sea conditions, tide, and available personnel resources and type of equipment. Assigns duties to survey employees based on technical difficulty, cross training needs, and physical requirements to best meet schedules. Serves as backup for office personnel to process data and perform computations for pre-dredge and after-dredge surveys. Performs site inspections for input on survey/construction projects.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires that the incumbent be willing and able to work on a survey vessel/small water craft.
