This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, North Atlantic Division, New York District, Surveys and Mapping Branch, UAS/Remote Sensing Section. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the world's premier engineering organization.
Duties
Share responsibility with the Section Chief for the accomplishment of all land surveying and hydrographic surveys within the district.
Responsible for coaching, facilitating and negotiating work, and directing the activities of subordinates.
Coordinate the work of field parties and various contractors engaged in the full range of surveying within the scope of regulatory requirements.
Manage the effective use of vessels assigned to the section including ocean-going craft.
Responsible for the development and retention of subordinates who perform field surveys and Computer Aided Design/Drafting (CADD) chart production.
Responsible for evaluating, compiling and disseminating project information related to safe navigation of district projects.
During dredging operations plans and establishes work schedules.
Serve as district consultant and staff advisor providing technical data in the form of updated project charts.
Maintain contact and coordinates work with the local Pilots Associations, and other Government agencies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Financial Disclosure Statement OGE Form 450 is used to assist agencies and employees to avoid conflicts between duties and financial interest.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overnight stays lasting up to 5 nights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing computations for dredging and/or surveys; 2) Performing system calibration and/or maintenance on survey equipment; AND 3) Preparing survey reports and/or records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
