This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Primary duties include however are not limited to the following: Leads performance improvement activities, root cause analysis, proactive risk assessments, and utilizes expertise in patient safety, system redesign and quality principals. Makes policy determinations and implements practices and strategies that enable high functioning leadership, continuous improvement, patient safety. Provides executive input in the strategic planning, budget, mission, operational planning, and policy development for local and network efforts. Coaches others in the application of performance improvement methodologies including LEAN and PDSA to improve priority metrics Guides leadership in setting key performance metrics Responsible for the ongoing oversight and supervision of patient safety and quality improvement staff covering all clinical, administrative, educational and research practice areas. Utilizes current trends and relevant theories in an analytical framework to design/modify, implement, and measure integrated programs and activities to achieve clinical and administrative goals of the medical center and/or network. Evaluates outcomes against strategic priorities. Acts as a consultant to medical center leadership, staff and greater community as an expert in areas of patient safety and performance improvement. Collaborates with both administrative and clinical services to monitor quality and safety within the service and medical centers. Utilizes clinical and administrative theoretical constructs and knowledge of current healthcare delivery systems to provide direction in the development and implementation of systems to improve the quality of patient care. knowledgeable of all programs including Patient Safety, Joint Commission, and LEAN-performance improvement. Functions as a facilitator in implementing action plans and progress improvement strategies at the service and healthcare system level. Reviews performance measures, Veterans Affairs Surgical Quality Improvement Program (VASQUIP) data, Inpatient Evaluation Center (IPEC), patient safety data, Patient Safety Alerts, Proactive Risk Assessments, strategic analysis for improvement and learning (SAIL) and other quality data for trends and early interventions. Leads the development, implementation, sustainment, and evaluation of systems for program monitoring and evaluation to ensure the quality and effectiveness of institutional performance. Assess organizational compliance with external accrediting body standards and develops strategies to maintain safe and quality care. Responsible for training clinicians, management, and all relevant support personnel within their facilities, about the patient safety program and patient safety analyses processes. Performs duties directly contributing to high quality and safe patient care within the VHA health care system. Physical Requirements: The position requires the incumbent to have visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires limited periods of standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, walking, and be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Transferring patients and objects may be required. This position also requires sitting for long periods typing on computer keyboard, looking at computer monitor, and using the telephone. The incumbent maybe exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials requiring the incumbent to don protective clothing and equipment in isolation situations or during invasive patient procedures. The incumbent may be exposed to patients who are combative or aggressive related to neurologic or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must meet the required screening/testing and be medically cleared by Employee Occupational Health as a condition of employment.
