The Physical Therapist is located in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Service at VA Central California Healthcare System (VACCHCS). The Physical Therapist is a licensed professional who utilizes the application of goal oriented, purposeful activity in the assessment and treatment of individuals whose function is impaired by physical illness or injury, psychiatric and/or emotional disorder, congenital or developmental learning disabilities, or the aging process.

Ability to make autonomous clinical decisions. This includes the ability to independently evaluate and treat patients who seek physical therapy services in a direct access environment. 3. Treatment is provided in the facility's clinics or other appropriate areas and/or via VA Video Connect (VVC) or phone appointments as appropriate for patients' needs. 4. States own responsibility for respectful professional interaction with culturally diverse patients and staff and for satisfaction of customers' needs. 5. Evaluates and interprets a wide variety of patient physical functional levels and provides progressive treatment based on current physical therapy theory as well as emerging and up-to-date research and practice. 6. Plans, implements and modifies individual physical therapy treatment programs for patients. 7. Facilitates continuity of care after discharge. 8. Is responsible for individual professional development and maintaining state licensure and any additional certification(s) required by the certifying/licensing agency and the VA. 9. Organizes work related matters and completes assigned tasks in a timely manner to maintain a workload consistent with standards established by PM&R. 10. Independently solves complex problems not covered by guidelines, without supervision, and serves as a role model/mentor for other physical therapy staff members/students. 11. Assists to establish and maintain a productive workplace that evidences employees' involvement, contribution, and teamwork in an atmosphere of respect and consideration of everyone. Eliminates factors in the workplace that may lead to any form of harassment or discrimination. Demonstrates support of the achievement of affirmative employment goals and improves understanding among employees. 12. Participates in regular team meetings, verbal and written communication and consultation among team members in order to guide and evaluate the work of the PM&R and multi-disciplinary Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (with occasional weekend duty) 8:00 - 16:30 Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: The following are the basic requirements and qualifications for appointment as a Physical Therapist in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). English Language Proficiency Requirement - Per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English. Education Requirement - The individual must meet at least one of the requirements below: Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist, OR Master's degree in Physical Therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist, OR Doctorate degree in physical therapy. NOTE: Individuals must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited college or university. Transcripts Required Licensure: Individuals hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Copy of Licensure Required. Grade Determination: In addition to the basic requirements as stated above, the following criteria must be met to be appointed at the GS-12 grade level in this occupation. GS-12 Grade level - Education, Experience and Licensure: In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, hold a valid unrestricted state license and demonstrate all the KSAs below: Ability to make autonomous clinical decisions in a Direct Access environment. This includes ability to independently evaluate and treat patients who seek physical therapy services. Skill in performing examinations and evaluations of individuals who have or may develop impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions related to conditions of the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and/or integumentary systems while considering the effects attributable to unique psychosocial and environmental factors. Ability to interpret findings from examination and evaluation, select appropriate test and measures, and integrate findings into the physical therapy plan of care for the full range of patient populations. Ability to establish a diagnosis within the scope of physical therapy and identify the appropriate rehabilitation intervention, including referral to another provider for further consultation as clinically indicated. Ability to determine physical therapy prognosis by incorporating examination findings with the patient's preferences in order to set clinically appropriate treatment goals, optimize outcomes and maximize functional independence. Ability to independently provide clinical oversight of Physical Therapy Assistants as well as students on clinical affiliations who are in Doctoral PT Programs or PTA Programs.
