About the Position: Incumbent serves as Maintenance Mechanic on a large flood control dam performing preventative maintenance and operating repairs on all dam equipment. Serves as senior maintenance worker at a lake project with responsibility for scheduling, directing, and/or performing operations and maintenance of the dam, appurtenant structures, and public use recreational facilities at the dam site.

Duties
Make scheduled inspections through the dam area testing operations on all equipment at the installation to determine condition and need for cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, replacement parts, or other repairs.
Make repairs to dam equipment, reservoir area, storage buildings, roads, etc.
Replace parts in gasoline engines such as spark plugs, defective wiring, fuel and water pumps, contact points, generators, starters, batteries and cables, and other similar parts.
Repair or reline bushings in gate-operating mechanisms, paint interior and exterior of buildings, machinery, dam gates, valves, pumps, handrails, stairways, walls, and trim of operations building and other structural surfaces.
Make periodic inspection of dam structures for cracks, salutation, and erosion, inspects buildings, and dam interior for scales on painted surfaces, rotted wood structures, and other defects.
Lubricate, disassemble, diagnosis of needed repairs, and repairs or reassembles such items as hydraulic systems and gasoline or diesel generating units.
Perform all class of preventive maintenance and repair work on automobiles, light trucks, motor patrol, front-end loader, tractor, dump truck, and 10-ton monorail crane.
Inspect and maintain mechanical equipment in dam such as hydraulic pumps, hydraulic cylinders, standby diesel engine generator, sump pumps, service gates and hoist machinery.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employee may be appointed as either “Responsible Employee” for property accountability or as “Ordering Officer” for the project.
- This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a motorboat license in accordance with Coast Guard or Corps requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate motor vehicles in accomplishing assigned duties.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a state permit to operate water and sewage treatment plants (where applicable).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a license to use herbicides, pesticides, and insecticides (where applicable).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid state issued Class A CDL.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. -
I have experience performing the most difficult and complex facility maintenance and repair tasks on a continual basis for electrical and mechanical components, equipment, and systems (such as hydraulic dam inspection/maintenance, gasoline engine repair, and various repairs around dam/park area) in accordance with established trade standards to ensure they are fully operational. I perform these tasks as an expert or journeyperson with a high degree of independence. I am consulted by other journeypersons in difficult situations, or I am called on to do unusually difficult jobs. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where areas are hard to reach. The work requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavy physical effort is required for the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and in moving hands, arms, legs, and feet to operate controls and attachments. Considerable strain is induced by the constant vibration of equipment and jolting caused when working on rough terrain; operator may be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds, and occasionally may lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds.
Works outside a substantial part of the time in extremes of weather. Work involves much walking and climbing of steps, ladders, slopes, and uneven surfaces. There is danger of injury to fingers and hands while operating power tools; or strains and sprains from heavy lifting; and of drowning when working in proximity of the water.
