The primary purpose of the work in the position is to serve as the Assistant to the Special Projects Coordinator, assisting in all matters related to special projects and special events. The incumbent assists Special Projects Coordinator in quality assurance efforts to ensure that all special event related areas’ deficiencies are well documented and addressed in a timely manner.

Qualifications
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-301-09.
Specialized Experience:
Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-8 level, assisting in all matters related to special projects and special events for an organization.

Comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated skill and experience in managing complex events and with both event planning and day-of execution.
Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with staff, volunteers, and external vendors.
Superior organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task, meeting all deadlines and deliverables to ensure smooth running events; demonstrated skill and ability to use tact and good judgment when working under pressure.
Comprehensive knowledge of National Gallery of Art policies, procedures, and goals as they relate to the functions of all departments conducting educational events and special events and an awareness of precedents at the Gallery to advise on correct procedures.
Knowledge of and familiarity with the work of caterers, musicians, film crews, florists, rental companies, and stage construction.
