You will serve as a Materials Handler in the Facility & Plant Maintenance Division, Facility & Infrastructure Management Department at Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE). This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will use common hand tools pneumatic/electric grinders, sanders, and drill to remove bolts and pipe fittings to gain access to storage tanks. You will collect, transport, handle, repackage, store and prepare Hazardous Waste for shipment and/or properly dispose of waste. You will operate forklifts, tractors and other similar equipment related to the trade. You will clean Hazardous Waste and Material spills using absorbents, neutralizing agents, and other equipment used for the safe and effective clean-up of spills. You will apply knowledge in chemicals, especially for the purposes of storage/transfer and to recognize adverse situations.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the screen out listed below. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Utilizing knowledge of compatible chemicals for storage and transfer purposes; 2) Using common hand tools and pneumatic/electric grinders, sanders and drills; 3) Identifying and understanding Hazardous Material labeling, in addition to cleaning hazardous waste and material spills utilizing absorbents and neutralizing agents; and 4) Operating forklifts, tractors, utility vehicles or similar machinery, vehicles and equipment directly related to the trade. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
