This position is located in the office of Health Care Systems, Oklahoma City Area (OCA) Indian Health Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As the Area Diabetes Consultant (ADC), the incumbent serves as the subject matter expert for the prevention and treatment of diabetes, as well as the OCA consultant for nutrition and dietetics. Incumbent reports to the Area Nurse Consultant.

Duties

Provides consultation, guidance, technical assistance, and education as a subject matter expert on diabetes mellitus, prediabetes, nutrition, and diabetes self-management education to individual employees, diabetes program staff, and health systems in the Federal, Tribal and Urban organizations. Coordinates and disseminates continuing education opportunities for OCA I/T/U staff on diabetes prevention, diabetes management, and nutrition. Serves as the coordinator for the Area for the Special Diabetes Program for Indian grantees. Participates in the multi-disciplinary activities at the local, Area and National level to address health disparities and support actions to address program goals. Coordinates continuing education on diabetes prevention and management.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: Your resume and/or transcripts must reflect that you possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Expert and comprehensive professional knowledge of diabetes, diabetes prevention, obesity, cardiovascular management to manage, plan, organize, implement, and evaluation of diabetes prevention and treatment programs, manage funds with the goal of improving and enhancing the health of diabetes patients. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
