This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Performs various duties to assess work practices and conditions for hazards to the health and safety of workers. Assigned work includes assessments of tasks performed by government employees engaged in construction, engineering, and maintenance activities.

Duties

With oversight of Industrial Hygienist, inspects office and industrial work areas for environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace. Analyze findings and prepare reports documenting hazards and findings. Conduct routine occupational exposure monitoring sampling. Enter data collected from Industrial Hygiene surveys into the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Reporting System (DOEHRS-IH) database. Calibrates Industrial Hygiene equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Pre-employment physical is required.
  • May be required to lift items weighing up to 25 lbs. unassisted or items weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance in the regular performance of duties.
  • Required to wear/use safety and personal protective equipment and clothing.
  • Must consent to immunization screening and receive missing immunizations or submit required documentation to request exemption.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications for the GS-07 Grade Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying potential health hazards; ensuring compliance with established occupational safety and health regulations; and/or utilizing automated systems to prepare a variety of technical reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Minimum Qualifications for the GS-08 Grade Level: Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices by performing portions of inspections and/or surveys; AND experience calibrating industrial hygiene sampling instruments and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Minimum Qualifications for the GS-09 Grade Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices by performing portions of inspections and/or surveys; AND experience calibrating industrial hygiene sampling instruments and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
