INVESTIGATIVE OPERATIONS DIVISION / ARLINGTON, VA The selectee of this position serves as a Supervisory Statistician. You will be responsible for formulating hypotheses and applying experimental, statistical, mathematical, or other research techniques in the systematic investigation and study of operational and forensic issues, practices, and programs within the IOD and USMS.

Duties

As a Supervisory Statistician at the GS-1530-14 level, some of your typical work assignments may include: Developing and monitoring a research agenda. Utilizing and/or developing computer programs to resolve a range of statistical problems or questions having important operational or research significance. Preparing formal research plans stating the major objectives, approaches, methods, to be used in the solution of the problem, target population, independent and dependent measures, and equipment and resources required. You may qualify at the GS-1530-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you meet the Basic Requirement, and possess the Specialized Experience for the respective grade level to which you are applying. Basic Requirement for GS-14 Statistician: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. (Must submit transcripts) OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. (Must be reflected in resume and must submit transcripts). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below. Specialized Experience: You may qualify at the GS-1530-13 level, if you have one year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Serving as a consultant and expert advisor on local or national data collection projects and studies that encompass a wide range of advanced statistical topics including statistical methods, research, and study design; 2) Providing statistical consultation and technical advice to subject matter experts and others with respect to scientific literature, theory, and statistical techniques; and 3) Analyzing a variety of data sets using appropriate statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, SAS, HLM, etc. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
