Prisoner Operations Division, Arlington, VA. The selectee of this position serves as a Statistician. You will be responsible for applying experimental, statistical, mathematical, or other research techniques for the improvement and coordination of detention-related activities, including the effective and efficient expenditure of appropriated funds.

Duties

As a Statistician at the GS-1530-9 level, some of your typical work assignments may include: Applying statistical techniques, and methods to gather, analyze, interpret, and/or report quantifiable information pertaining to the financial management of on-going operations. Developing financial projections and quantitative analyses related to POD's program operations and for long range program planning. Applying ad hoc statistical analyses and/or quantitative studies requested by management. Researching and analyzing specific problems, issues, or requirements related to the Federal Prisoner Detention Program Developing and preparing various reports, reporting formats, briefings, and written presentations related to both on­going statistical reports and special projects. The responsibilities described above are for the full performance level. At the developmental grade levels, assignments may be of more limited scope, performed with less independence, and limited complexity. Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-1530-09 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you meet the Basic Requirement, and possess the Specialized Experience and/or education for the respective grade level to which you are applying. Basic Requirement: All applicants must meet one of the following basic requirements. Applicants MUST submit a copy of their transcripts for verification. A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. (Must submit transcripts) OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a)sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. (Must be reflected in resume and must submit transcripts). In addition to the Basic Requirement listed above, all applicants must possess the following specialized experience and/or education to be considered minimally qualified: Specialized Experience: At least one year (12 months) of full-time specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties: 1. Assisting with the preparation of regular and recurring statistical reports and quantitative analysis of financial data; 2. Assisting with the design and improvement of statistical and quantitative models involving multiple variables used to forecast an organizations probable program expenditures; 3.Creating and maintaining the necessary documentation related to data sources, the statistical methods and techniques used, program information, work notes, and other background materials related to the creation of the report; 4. Applying a wide range of analytical and statistical theories, principles, and practices sufficient to perform a range of assigned duties; and 5. Analyzing data using established statistical methods, modeling techniques and procedures. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: ex.Quantitative Methods, Data Science,or Applied Statistics (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS). OR Combination: A combination of education and specialized experience as listed above. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS) You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirements for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
