Duties

Spray paint missiles and component parts including guidance fins and explosive warheads. Mixes and thins paints to proper consistency. Applies appropriate stencils and may use a paintbrush to touch up inaccessible areas and minor scratches. Performs tasks in connection with all up rounding, reassembly, inspection, demil, inventory and repair of Air Force air-to-air and air-to-ground missile systems and components. Checks modification status and performs mechanical inspection of missiles and missile components such as corrosion, damage, loose or missing hardware, proper stenciling and nomenclature. Prepares surfaces of missiles for prime coat and sprays to a uniform thickness. Ensures all tools and equipment are serviceable and have current calibration inspection dates.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain/maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Must undergo physical examination and receive favorable results prior to appointment and annually thereafter.
  • Required to meet ammunition certification requirements IAW AMC-R 350-4 within one year of employment.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program and requires an initial drug screening test as well as random drug tests for duration of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Painter without more than normal supervision. Prepare surfaces of missiles for prime coat, able to mix and thin paints to proper consistency, fills spray tank, adjusts spray gun to obtain desired spray pattern and applies finish coats of paint correctly and assist missile mechanics on the tear down and disassembly of missile and component parts. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsPractices in Construction, StructureTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: There is frequent standing, bending and working in tiring positions, although there is occasional sitting down at workbenches. It is required to lift, push or pull a variety of items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally some above the weight. Required to be fit tested to wear a respirator WORKING CONDITIONS: May work in an environmentally controlled area or in areas that are well lighted, heated and ventilated. Subject to high frequency noise, cuts, bruises and burns or shocks caused by high voltage energy. May be subject to work-limited time in inclement weather. This position has critical safety or security responsibilities and as such has been designated as a testing designated position (TDP). As a condition of employment, incumbent of a TDP is subject to a random drug test that occurs without suspicion that a particular individual is using illegal drugs. Incumbent works with high and low explosives and is required to attend training to be certified under AMCR 350-4.
