This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking.
Duties
You will serve as a Plumber responsible for installing, maintaining, altering and repairing plumbing facilities.
Plan and lay out plumbing work ensuring proper routing, placement, slant, slope, fall and operation.
Accomplish break down repairs, emergency/trouble calls, new installations, alterations, preventative maintenance and additions or deletions to plumbing systems and equipment.
Operate underground pipe locating instruments and leak detectors.
Monitor and maintain water quality in swimming pools.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Serves as an incidental motor vehicle operator of vehicles to carry self, tools and equipment, and sometimes other employees to work site. Must possess a government vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicles operated.
- Must respond to emergency calls after regular working hours.
- This position has been designated for drug testing. It's incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.
- Incumbent must pass a pre-employment physical and any subsequent annual physical.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL license within 6 months of appointment.
- Mission Essential: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.
- This position requires 10% temporary duty travel (TDY).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber ~ without more than normal supervision: perform common Plumber tasks and/or duties to include setting up and installing plumbing systems (e.g. sewage, water, oil, air, and gas distribution systems, water closets, tubs, back flow preventers devices / assemblies, fire sprinklers systems and showers); determining equipment, tools, and parts needed for plumbing repair work; AND interpreting instructions for final assembly on plumbing parts or systems.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and where parts of the system are in hard-to-reach places. Frequently lifts and carries items that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally handles heavier items, usually with assistance of another person or of mechanical devices. Work is frequently done from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. The work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposed to mud, water, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections from unsanitary work sites. Incumbent has occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones. Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes are required. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn. Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
