This position is located in the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) of the Northport VAMC in Northport, NY. In order to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program, the incumbent will be responsible for performing administrative and
technical program work including receiving daily intelligence and data points regarding behaviors for identification, tracking, analysis and assimilation into the threat assessment process.
Duties
Tracking data from the Disruptive Behavior Reporting System (DBRS), coordinating information with DBC/ETAT members, gathering additional information where appropriate including CPRS, other data systems where able, law enforcement data as allowed, criminal history and background data and communication with staff and patients.
Outreach employees, patients, law enforcement, and patient safety personnel, among others, to retrieve more information regarding incidents and behaviors.
They must be able to incorporate feedback into the analysis process of which they are an active member.
The incumbent must be versed in transferring clinical recommendations and threat mitigation plans into data systems and have the ability to recall and track information for ongoing case monitoring or case closure.
Enter and/or co-sign administrative CPRS notes. He/she will ensure all actions (general letters, flag entry/removal notification sent with sent, noted in CPRS, and DBRS documentation) are completed simultaneously and within required time frames.
Take all available PMDB, DBRS, ETAT, DBC and WBRA trainings so to be able to competently provide administrative responsibilities to all program areas, engage in data analysis and fully participate as a threat assessment team member.
Collect the data from disruptive behavior reports for the annual WBRA and ensure data accuracy.
Assist in management of Behavioral Patient Record Flags (PRFs) by ensuring that they are entered appropriately, tracked and evaluated periodically by the DBC, and kept up to date per hospital policy and VA national guidelines (minimum review of q 2 years or significant status change/request).
Ensures WVPP, the COS office and Patient Advocate office responds in a timely manner per policy to Order of Behavioral Restriction Requests for Review submissions to the VISN and notification back to Veteran on final determinations.
Assist in assignment of actions to team members as part of the triage process in managing DBRS reports.
Engage in data analysis for disruptive behavior events and codes including tracking and identification of patterns and system contributors.
Assist in coordinating policy and procedure implementation related to behavioral incidents, prevention and management of disruptive behavior and workplace violence prevention.
Engages in the day-to-day scheduling, coordinating, and planning of logistics needed to carry out WVPP processes.
Serves as facility PMDB Instructor for Northport VAMC, held on a regularly scheduled and recurring basis.
Maintains specialized knowledge of PMDB education and training and provides training and re-training of PMDB skills to the entire Northport VAMC facility staff.
Reviews new programs, films, and/or curricula for possible inclusion in education and training inventory.
Performs clerical or technical duties associated with developing, revising, maintaining, recording and/or instructing educational courses.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The incumbent will serve in a developmental assignment to provide the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the full range of duties described in the target position description, Program Specialist, GS-0301-09. The incumbent will perform the duties outlined in the target grade position description but will operate under closer supervision. Assignments are given with more specific instructions and guidance until the incumbent has gained familiarity and experience with the work and can perform all duties at the full performance level as described in the target position description. All other factors remain the same.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/28/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7.
For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Specialized Experience GS-9: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Skill in data management, writing, and the ability to apply sound judgment are necessary skills required of this position to apply problem solving. Significant oral communication skills sufficient to communicate sometimes complicated program details and the regulations that govern the program. and interpersonal relationship management techniques. Must be able to follow applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement that the employee signs. thorough knowledge and ability to engage in effective customer service practices, de-escalatory communication skills, and leadership by example of professional and ethical conduct. Must be familiar with the mission, organization and programs of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Medical Center. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of people. Must be proficient in English grammar, general accounting principles, data input and typing skills necessary to produce documents/reports mentioned herein. Skill and knowledge in computer operations including all standard office programs. Ability to gather, interpret and analyze information as well as identify inaccuracies or anomalies in order to arrive at a logical conclusion. must be able to plan, organize and implement assigned tasks under strict deadlines and multiple changing priorities including ability to interpret and apply written instructions, guidelines, policy memorandums. The incumbent is responsible for adhering to, and remaining current with, best practices in violence risk and behavioral threat assessment. OR,

To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25lbs. Most days physical demands of the work are generally minor and are sedentary in nature. However, the incumbent must have the ability to complete all PMDB training to have a full understanding of the techniques and methods involved and to actively train staff. This will require physical effort such as setting, squatting, standing, walking, bending, etc. while engaging in and demonstrating hands on PMDB techniques. These demonstrations require close physical proximity and contact with other staff.
