Agent Cashiers perform a very critical role within the VA system, and functions independently with a broad knowledge base and receives minimal supervision. The position is located at Buffalo, NY VA Medical Center and is assigned to Fiscal Service.
Duties

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS 6. At the GS 5 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS 6. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work and availability of funds.
Duties include but may not be limited to:
Maintains the cash flow so that adequate cash is on hand at all times.
Takes prompt action as necessary to modify and/or change existing practices
Provides training and technical advice.
Determines the acceptability of payment documents and cash items.
Appropriately posts/applies payments, stores payment data, reconciles daily deposits of funds and accommodates prepayments and refunds.
Receives receipts, deposits and accounts for collections received.
Balance accounts daily to assure that the disbursing fund and collections are properly accounted for.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS 5: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS 4) level in Federal Service that includes performing the following duties: Handles large amounts of cash and balance daily.; Manages multiple priorities and responds to demands from several sources.; Handles conflicts and problems with customers, constructively and appropriately.; Completes actions to correct or prevent errors, delays or other complications occurring during Teller activities.

OR
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successful completion of 4 years of education above high school.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond 18 semester hours) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses directly related to the work of this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS 6: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS 5) level in Federal Service that includes performing the following duties: Handles large amounts of cash and balance daily.; Manages multiple priorities and responds to demands from several sources.; Handles conflicts and problems with customers, constructively and appropriately.; Completes actions to correct or prevent errors, delays or other complications occurring during Teller activities.; Ensures timely accomplishment of assigned work.; Utilizes knowledge of rules, regulations and policies relating to travel, agent cashier and accounting.; Responsible for overall security of Agent Cashier Office and its contents, including, but not limited to, keeping record of safe combination changes and ensuring supervisor is alerted when combination must be changed and ensuring only authorized personnel are in the office.; Processes difficult procedural and technical tasks pertaining to travel, Agent Cashier and other financial duties.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
