You will serve as an Electronics Technician in the Information Technology & Cyber Security Department (Code 109) of PSNS and IMF. GS-09: $67,147 - 87,291 GS-10: $73,944 - 96,124

Duties

You will determine work methods and use of tools for the installation and maintenance of electrical and electronics systems and apply expert analysis and development of the integration, testing, operations, and maintenance of systems security. You will plan and schedule communication system upgrades and modifications, new equipment acquisition, and installation. You will develop infrastructure device backup and recovery procedures (e.g., testing and evaluation/research and development, sustainment and troubleshooting new or modified security systems). You will apply expert electronics technician methods, principles, and practices of electrical and electronic test equipment such as multi-meters, function generators, mega-ohm meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes and cable testers. You will assign regular and special workload/projects to subordinate employees ensuring that requirements are understood; as well as establishes operating guidelines for Branch functions. You will instruct on electronic equipment. You will complete assigned studies, design projects and equipment, or security and CCTV hardware evaluations usually require deviating from traditional methods or researching trends and patterns to develop improved methods or criteria. You will plan, develop, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain one-of-a-kind research systems and upgrade their capabilities based on application of emerging technology. You will modify, adapt and/or refine broader guidelines to resolve specific complex and or intricate issues and problems and implement new policies and practices. You will recognize data anomalies and determines if they are due to equipment or experimental errors and takes action to make changes to experimental design to resolve problems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 60 pounds in weight.
  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding. I am willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. I am able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
  • This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, work role code 461 Systems Security Analyst, proficiency level Basic the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain quals in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.

Qualifications

GS-10: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector utilizing electronic techniques and/or methodologies to assist with decision making, creating solutions or improving techniques for the optimization of vessel electronic system maintenance and repairs. GS-09: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector utilizing electronic techniques and/or methodologies to support decision making, problem solving or technique improvements for the optimization of vessel electronic system maintenance and repairs. Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual.

Education may be substituted for the GS-09 specialized experience based on the below:

Successful completion of at least two full academic years of education above high school that included at least 12 semester hours of courses in safety, fire prevention, industrial hygiene, psychology, engineering, or in the agricultural, biological, or physical sciences.

OR

A combination of experience and post high school education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
