Duties
You will serve as the Supervisory Science and Technology Advisor to the Commander US Indo-Pacific Command in the Resources and Requirements division.
You will serve as the principal advisor to the Commander for identification, assessment, and recommendation of science and technology to address joint warfighting needs, consistent with Combatant Command operational plans and operating concepts.
You will provide support to other staff elements in the deliberate, contingency, and crisis action planning and execution processes.
You will lead the Indo-Pacific Command Science and Technology Board to include reviewing and providing applicable technology resources.
You will provide strategic vision, prioritization, and guidance to the Command's international science and technology engagements.
You will plan and execute an annual Pacific Operational Science and Technology Conference.
You will provide thoroughly researched critical technical advise and consultation to the Commander and other staff elements.
You will provide administrative and technical supervision, advice, and mentoring to military, civilian, and contractor personnel.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position (see the Education section), your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that is typically in or related to the science and technology field and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Plan and execute technology conference to include obtaining and scheduling speakers, establishing theme and agenda, and hosting; 2) Thoroughly research and provide critical technical advice and recommendations on managing future technology solutions; 3) Provide administrative and technical supervision, advice, and mentoring to other personnel; 4) Review and structure an organization to optimize use of resources and maximize efficiency; 5) Explain performance expectations, appraise performance, recommend awards, and initiate/document action to correct performance or conduct problems.

Education
In addition to the required specialized experience, applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess at least one of the following levels of education:
Successful completion of a degree in Engineering: To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as
optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
1. Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT)1, or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions.
2. Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)2 examination or any other written test required for professional.
