This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U. S. Coast Guard, LANTAREA, National Strike Force, National Strike Force Coordination Center, Elizabeth, NC 

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Chief of the NSFCC’s Marine Environmental Response and Preparedness Division, responsible for performing critical preparedness functions to support the Coast Guard’s Marine Environmental Response Program, including maintaining the Response Resource Inventory (RRI), managing the Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO) classification program, conducing Preparedness Assessment Visits (PAVs), and conducting technical reviews of Area Contingency Plans (ACPs).

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal sector related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Examples of specialized experience include: reviewing federal, state, tribal and local emergency response plans to determine level of preparedness and make recommendations for appropriate changes; using functional roles/relationships with other agencies (i.e., United Status Coast Guard (USCG), Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of State (DOS) to coordinate program activities; analyzing contingency plans, to include All Hazards/All Threats, National Defense, and Combatant Commander support; carrying out functional assignments through employees supervised. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
